Throughout her remarkable life, Rachel “Bunny” Mellon devoted herself to the art of garden design. Alongside her husband, Paul Mellon, she lived between residences in New York, Cape Cod, Nantucket, Antigua, and Upperville, Virginia—designing the gardens at each property with her signature sense of elegance and restraint.
Her influence extended far beyond her private homes, including the iconic Rose Garden and East Garden at the White House, created at the request of President John F. Kennedy, as well as gardens for her close friend, couturier Hubert de Givenchy, at both his Paris residence and château. Her work remains a defining expression of refined, thoughtful landscape design.
